The Customs Duty collection in August, 2019 registered an increase of 15%, amounting to Rs 17.90 as compared to the collection of Rs 15.2 billion in August, 2018. Similarly, in the same period Sales Tax collection increased from Rs 25.80 billion to Rs 32.47 billion, Federal Excise Duty from Rs 345 million to Rs 393.03 million and Income Tax from Rs 5.2 billion to Rs 5.6 billion.
Mumtaz Ali Khoso, the Collector of Customs, has attributed this impressive revenue performance of the Collectorate, despite a steep decline in imports, to enhanced trade facilitation measures taken at the time of clearance of import goods and efficient managerial controls. He especially lauded the leadership role of Syed Muhammad Shabbar Zaidi, Chairman FBR, Dr Jawwad Uwais Agha, Member (Customs-Operations) and Suraiya Ahmed Butt, Chief Collector (Appraisement-South), Karachi. He also lauded the efforts of his team of officers and staff in achieving the revenue target and expressed the resolve to achieve the remaining revenue target for the current financial year.
